Unreal

First and foremost, the baby is fine - that is what's really important (I need to keep telling myself that or I just may lose it.)

I have been admitted to the hospital and will remain here until the baby is born, which at this point, we have to hope will not be for at least a few more days now.

Where to start? Saturday evening, as I got ready to hop in the shower, I noticed all these little purple spots on my abdomen. I thought it was kind of strange, but felt well and the baby was moving well, so I figured I would see what happened the next day. Sunday, there seemed to be more and I noticed there were also some on my arms and legs. I thought they resembled broken blood vessels. I called the midwives and after discussing things, they decided to see me first thing this morning, with the caveat that if anything changed I would call immediately. This morning, as I got ready for my appointment, I noticed some strange bruising that concerned me a little. To make a very long story short, my platelet count is less that 10,000 (it should be between 150,000 and 400,000.) I have seen a hematologist, he believes I have i.diopathic t,hrombocytopenic p.urpura . They are treating me with steroids to try and get my platelet levels up to a point where it is safe to deliver me.

I feel like a bad movie. I just cannot catch a break at all.

Wow, you are right, you can't catch a break. I am so glad you are in the hospital though safe and sound. I am saying many prayers for you and the baby. I can't wait to hear your good news.

Holy crap, woman! Sooooo not what you needed.
This is more like an episode of House, but that doesn't make it any funner to live it.
Steroids are not terrible, really, and if you need them, you need them...
Update us when you can, ok?

It has been such a long and difficult road, Ashleigh. I know it may not feel like it, but you are so strong with all the challenges life has brought you in the last 13 months.

Hoping your condition improves quickly so you can welcome your new baby, both of you strong and healthy.

OH MY G*D! What is up with the universe??? I hope the steroids work quickly and that you and baby are snuggling with each other in short order. I guess there really is no such thing as easy after db. But really, does it have to be this hard????
I am thinking of you every second, not in a sicko stalker way, and waiting for your happy ending to come, just at the right moment.

Ashleigh, know that my thoughts are with you in the days ahead. You are a testament to what we endure for our dreams. You and that little one just hang tough for just a wee bit longer.

Ashleigh, I'm not sure where I found your blog from. That said, I wanted you to know my husband had thrombocytopenic purpura 3.5yrs ago. After the initial onset of his illness he has done very well. Of course he wasn't pregnant and certainly not dealing with the stresses you are, but I just wanted you to know I'm thinking of you & your family and will be praying for you all.

From reading your blog, it is obvious you have an amazing strength and I wish you nothing but the absolute best in delivering this new baby.

Please know you have positive thoughts & prayers coming from Oregon.
